Cyclist Nicole Cooke has won Britain’s first gold medal of the Beijing Games.

Despite really bad weather the 25-year-old, from Wales, raced to victory in the women’s cycling road race in three hours, 32 minutes and 24 seconds.

“We did it, its perfect. It’s a dream come true,” she said, after becoming Britain’s first Olympic medallist in this event.
