Couple make dog fur jumpers
A couple from Newcastle used the hair of their two dead dogs to make his ‘n’ hers jumpers to remember their pets.Beth and Brian Willis got the idea from a picture of Princess Diana wearing a cape made from dog fur at Crufts.
They gathered hairs from their dogs Penny and Kara from brushes and carpets, and made huge fluffy jumpers.
The couple say the sweaters keep them warm and dry, and although some people think wearing dog hair is disgusting, they think it’s normal.
Mr Willis, aged 73, wears his jumper into town every Saturday to do the weekly shop.
He said: “They are extremely warm and pretty much waterproof. I’ve always got a sweat on by the time I get from the bus to the shops.”
Mrs Willis, 71, said the dog hair is amazing stuff that gets more soft and fluffy the more you wash it.
“People are surprised when they find out we’re wearing dog wool clothes.
“Some think it’s disgusting and ask how we can do it, but it seems very normal to us,” she added.
